On and Off the Bench is not an autobiography of Aloysius S. Aguiar. The book narrates the experiences and the events that transpired during two decades of the judicial career of Aguiar as a judge of the Bombay City Civil & Sessions Court; and later, as a judge of the Bombay High Court. The book is also a collection of writings, articles, talks and speeches by Aguiar on topics that range from legal and constitutional issues to matters like marriage and divorce. The book also deals with ‘end of life’ and ‘life hereafter’ concerns.
